Greene County district court, week ending Jan. 10

In Greene County district court Billie Jo Hovick, 50, of Jefferson was sentenced Jan. 9 to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of fraudulent practice- first degree. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. She must pay $9,452.132 restitution to Iowa Workforce Development. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria Kester)

Timothy Patrick Day, 61, of Jefferson was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete all recommendations at his own expense. He must complete a drinking drivers course. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. Day was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Kenney Allen Cathers, 61, of Jefferson was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. All but seven days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete all recommendations at his own expense. He may complete the DMACC 96-hour alcohol education program in lieu of four days of the jail time. Cathers was fined $1,875 with a $281.25 surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Aristides Iban De PazPaz, 43, of Perry, operating while intoxicated; and Nolan Roger Wilson, 26, of Grand Junction, murder- first degree, child endangerment causing death, and domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow causing bodily injury. Trial dates were set for April 8 in both cases.

Cases were initiated as follows: Jeremy Ernest Andrews, 36, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; and Brooklyn Ruby Renshaw, 18, of Scranton, operating while intoxicated.
